La réglisse a une racine rhizomateuse appelée bois de réglisse, utilisée pour ses propriétés pectorales, adoucissantes et expectorantes, ainsi que pour son action efficace contre les ulcères gastro-duodénaux et les gastrites. Toutefois, l'utilisation de la réglisse à dose élevée et prolongée n'est pas sans danger ; elle peut provoquer de l'hypertension artérielle, suivie de phénomènes paralytiques et de troubles du rythme cardiaque.
La réglisse est commercialisée sous 3 formes : coupée et non écorcée (réglisse naturelle) représentant 70 % des volumes importés, coupée et écorcée (réglisse ratissée), et en bâton pour une consommation telle quelle. La production française reste très limitée (une quinzaine d'hectares sous contrat avec un spiritueux). Les importations se font notamment depuis la Syrie, la Chine, l'Espagne et l'Italie.

Les moteurs Diesel agricoles sont nécessairement munis de régulateurs de vitesse de rotation agissant sur l'alimentation en gazole de façon à augmenter la force en rotation fournie par le moteur (couple moteur) en dépit des variations fréquentes des résistances rencontrées (la machine exerçant un couple résistant variable, à cause des volumes variables de récolte pénétrant dans la machine, par ex.), pour que la vitesse de rotation du moteur (régime) reste sensiblement constante. C'est un système automatique en boucle, très simple, qui capte les variations d'une grandeur liée au régime (force centrifuge, dépression d'aspiration du moteur, pression de gazole dans le circuit de la pompe) et agit en sens inverse sur l'alimentation en gazole de façon à compenser la variation détectée et à augmenter ou à diminuer le couple moteur pour qu'il s'adapte aux variations de résistance : ainsi le régime se maintient automatiquement au voisinage de la valeur de consigne.
Les régulateurs modernes sont encore plus performants : ils font appel à des composants électroniques (capteurs et calculateur) qui mesurent toutes les grandeurs utiles, calculent les dosages optimaux d'injection et l'instant exact de l'injection, puis pilotent les servocommandes des soupapes de la pompe.
Il existe aussi des régulateurs de débit et de pression d'huile sur les circuits hydrauliques des tracteurs agricoles.

On laisse entre les plants une distance de 20 cm pour les plus petites variétés et de 60 cm pour les plus élevées. La floraison commence en juillet et dure jusqu'aux premières gelées.
Maladies.
Les reines-marguerites sont sensibles à diverses maladies (viroses, rouilles et surtout fusariose, maladie à laquelle quelques variétés sont cependant résistantes). Le thrips du tabac provoque une déformation des fleurs.

La production de fleurs coupées occupe 20 ha en France, dont 12 ha en Seine-et-Marne.
