Founded in 1794, this prestigious engineering college has close connections with the Ministry of Defence. Formerly situated in the heart of the fifth arrondissement, the college moved to Palaiseau, near Paris, in the 1970s. It is popularly known as l'X. Students are effectively enlisted in the army and must repay their education through government service.
