Gallego
Gallego (“Galician”) is one of Spain's official languages. It is spoken in the northwestern region of Galicia. Like Spanish and Catalan, it stems from Latin, and it has many similarities to modern Portuguese. For decades Galician was either banned outright or lacked official recognition, and as a consequence it was mainly spoken in rural areas. However, nowadays it is being promoted as the official language for use in education and public administration.
